revival

We got back from FloydFest on sunday after four days of camping. I've been absolutely exhausted. The festival was, as usual, a feast for the senses. John and Ella camped on thursday and friday night, and then we just had Ruby on saturday night. I think I spent all day in the Children's Universe on friday, and today John asked me the location of the Grown Up Universe. I think we are headed to the Shakori Hills Festival in October.

I hacked off all my hair and am left with this dark brown greyness. I would actually like it better if it were more grey. John keeps telling me to keep it real, but I am drawn to coloring it. I do like the shortness and even want it shorter.

In more exciting news, my mother cut her hair super short, her first real haircut in forty three years. The bun is gone people.

blues and greens

blues and greens, originally uploaded by ellajohn.

We walk this pond loop almost weekly, and today we took Grandmarie to see it for the first time. We have been talking about a homegrown mama led art camp, so they brought their paper and crayons. We saw holes with fresh hatched turtle eggs, a belted kingfisher, and listened to cicadas. The dragonflies are lime and electric blue. Next time we are bringing paint into the woods.

Fourth of July Pie

grandmarie rising, originally uploaded by ellajohn.

We picked ten pounds of blueberries. I made one perfect pie in a red pie pan and cooked steak, salmon, and italian sausages on the grill. John set off fireworks in the driveway, and then we loaded Ruby and John into the double jogger and racewalked to the public library to watch the town fireworks.
